From Fujairah to Dubai and back

Page update - Sep 20, 2022

Vacating in the Emirate of Fujairah has one big disadvantage - the lack of entertainment. Probably, you want to see the main sights of the UAE: Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Dubai Fountain, go to Wild Wadi and Aquaventure water parks. But all this is in Dubai, far from Fujairah.

On this page, let's talk about ways to get from Fujairah to Dubai. Of course, the information is useful for those who want to get from Dubai to Fujairah as well. Which option is the fastest? Which option is the cheapest?

The prices, schedules, and other information on this page were updated in September 2022. Don't forget about the strict covid safety measures. Face masks are still required in all sorts of public transport in the UAE.

Magnificent news!

Starting May 19, 2022, bus E700 Dubai-Fujairah resumes. We remind that the E700 route was suspended in 2020 due to coronavirus. This is very good news!

Distance between Fujairah and Dubai

Dubai and Fujairah are not far from each other. The distance between the borders of the emirates is 26 miles (42 kilometers). The distance between the borders of cities Al Fujairah and Dubai is 56 miles (90 kilometers). The distance between the centers of the cities is 74.5 miles (120 kilometers).

Important tips

If you decide to devote a day to a trip to Dubai then it is better to go on workdays (from Monday to Thursday). As of January 3, 2022, the UAE has adopted a new working week format. Weekends are now Friday from noon, Saturday and Sunday, we talked about it in detail in the review "Weekends in the UAE". There are always a lot of people at the sights during the weekends.

And another tip. Even if you take the earliest bus and come back by the last bus then you'll have 12 hours in Dubai. Try to use this time wisely, don't try to see all the sights at once, you won't succeed. Think about it, maybe you should rent a room at a inexpensive hotel for one night and devote two days to Dubai.

E700 bus

Bus E700 is running again starting May 19, 2022. This is wonderful.

The E700 bus is the cheapest way to travel between the emirates. Now there is only one route between Fujairah to Dubai. There was a second route, E701, but it was canceled a few years ago.

First you have to get from your hotel to the bus station.

The easiest way is by cab, although you can walk from some hotels. Tell the cab driver "Bus Station E700," and the driver will know exactly where to go.

If you are staying at a hotel in the Al Fujairah area, the ride will cost between 5 and 15 dirhams. See the current exchange rate of the Emirati currency in our review "UAE Dirham", taxi fares in the review "Taxis in the UAE".

If you are vacationing in Dibba, which is in the north of the emirate, the situation is more complicated. You will first need to get to the city of Al Fujairah. A cab ride will cost about 80 dirhams. Or you can take a bus from Dibba to Al Fujairah, the price is 20 dirhams, check the timetable at the reception of your hotel, they usually know.

When you've arrived at the bus station.

The stop is in the center of Al Fujairah city, near the Perfumer's Circle. It is a small square with circular traffic, in the center of the circle is a statue depicting a hand and a bottle of perfume in that hand. See the photo near, click on the photo to enlarge to full screen.

The stop is 300 feet (100 meters) from the circle, facing away from the coast. If you look closely at the photo, you can see the stop and the bus to the left of the statue.

If you need to change money, go further from the stop. In 160 feet (50 meters) there will be a big UAE Exchange office, read our review "How and where to change currency in the UAE". If you want to stock up on food or drinks on the way, then look for a supermarket near the square. For the grocery prices in the UAE read our review "Grocery prices in the UAE".

The fare is 25 dirhams.

You will have to pay with a NOL card that costs 25 dirhams (19 of them are in the account). Therefore, you will need to recharge another 6 dirhams. The calculation is according to the NOL Silver card. Summary is you will pay 31 dirhams if you ride for the first time.

The card will then be useful for travel in the subway and buses in Dubai. Also you can pay for a trip back to Fujairah if you recharge another 25 dirhams.

Bus E700 timetable.

Attention! Buses run once every hour or hour and a half. Earlier (before the pandemic) they ran more often.

Download the current (September 2022) E700 schedule.

The travel time is 2-2.5 hours. Buses are comfortable - with air conditioning, soft seats, toilets. See photos nearby, click on the photo to enlarge to full screen.

In Dubai, you will arrive at Union Square Bus Station. Next to the bus station there is a Dubai Metro station, which is a convenient and quick way to get to any point of interest. For a subway map and fares check our detailed review "Dubai Metro".

Our advice: as soon as you arrive at the bus station, be sure to take a picture of the E700 timetable with your phone, so you know the exact departure time of the last runs. If by mistake you will be late for the last bus, you will have to take a cab, and it's very expensive. We'll talk about cabs later.

One more tip: the first and last E700 buses are in high demand (usually). Arrive 15 minutes before the departure.

Find your hotel

A cab from Fujairah to Dubai by the meter will cost 220-250 dirhams if you go to the Deira district. If you need to get to Downtown, it's already 250-280. The travel time is one hour and 15 minutes.

You can negotiate a flat fare, it's cheaper. However, cab drivers rarely agree to such terms with tourists. Local expats (guest workers) from India, Pakistan or Iran manage to negotiate even 100 dirhams. This is not surprising, an Indian and an Indian can easily reach an agreement. Read our review of "UAE Population".

You can order a transfer over the Internet. It is convenient, fast, but not always cheap. There are many offers, and you need to choose the most profitable. There are offers for a transfer for 45-50 dollars, which is even cheaper than a cab.

Shared cabs

Local expats ride as follows. They arrive at the E700 bus stop, where there is a large cab stand. They cooperate foursome, pool their money and take a cab to Dubai. Now temporarily this method does not always work, because covid-safety rules forbid more than two passengers in a cab.

If you're not afraid to ride with unfamiliar people, we recommend this option. You should come to the bus stop and look for fellow expats, they will make an agreement with the cab driver, you just need to join the group.

In this case, the cab will take you to Deira Taxi Stand in the Deira area of Dubai City, near Union Square Station.

The cost of a helicopter flight from Fujairah to Dubai is USD 1000-1200 one way. You need to book at least 2 days in advance, 100% prepayment is required.

There are currently two companies in the UAE engaged in such transfers - Marutzzi and Helidubai. Their prices are almost the same and the helicopter fleet is almost identical.

From Fujairah you can take off either from Fujairah Airport or from the helipad at Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort.

In Dubai you can land at: Dubai and Al Maktoum airports, Burj Al-Arab, Bab Al Shams Resort, Atlantis Palm, Al Maha Resort, Waldorf Astoria, Rixos Palm, Dubai Festival City, World Trade Center, SkyDive Dubai, Dubai Creek & Yacht Club, Emirates Golf Club.

By the way, a helicopter might not be the quickest way to get there. After all, you still need to get to the helipad. The flight lasts 20 minutes.

What else you need to know

- There is an airport in Fujairah, but it won't help you get to Dubai. There are no flights on this route;

- On the E700 bus you pay only in dirhams. Read our review "Where and how to change currency in the UAE";

- The bus ride will be boring. You will see mostly deserted terrain in the window. Stock up on mobile internet so you don't get bored. Read our detailed review "Internet in the UAE".

We wish you a comfortable and fast travel in the Arab Emirates, and read our interesting pages about this country (see list of the pages below).
