Page update - Feb 8, 2023
How to get from Abu Dhabi International Airport (code: AUH) to the city? Which is the fastest way? Which is the cheapest? What are the buses to the city? How much is a cab to different parts of Abu Dhabi city? Can Uber help you save money? Read the answers on this page.
The prices, timetables and other information on this page were updated in February 2023. The latest great news is that AUH Express buses are running in 2023, having been extended for 2023 after a successful trial period. Read all the details below.
Cabs are the most popular transport from the airport for tourists, used by 9 out of 10 independent (not by package tours) tourists. In most cases, you can save money by taking a bus part of the way, but we will talk about that a little later.
Until 2014, the cab fares in Abu Dhabi airport were standard - 3.5 dirhams for boarding, 1.6 dirhams per kilometer (2.6 dirhams per mile). That was great, but those low prices are gone. Now there are new prices, on top of which all cab prices were raised in 2017.
Now (September 2022) a boarding is 25 dirhams, a kilometer of ride is 1.8 dirhams (2.9 dirhams a mile). For the current exchange rates, see our page "UAE Dirham". In addition, most likely you will have to take a cab to Abu Dhabi island across one of the bridges. And starting January 2021, there is a toll of 4 dirhams on these bridges. In case of a cab, those 4 dirhams will be added to the cost of the trip.
Abu Dhabi is a big city. Hotels are located throughout the city, so it is difficult to accurately predict the ride cost. Here are the prices for popular tourist areas of the city.
|Central Bus Station
|Marina, Emirates Palace, Heritage Village
|Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
Almost all the cab drivers take dollars, pounds, euros for payment. However, be prepared to pay at an unfavorable rate. For example, the official fixed exchange rate of the dollar is 1 to 3.75 dirhams. You will pay a cab driver 1:3.5 or even worse.
That's why we advise changing money at the airport. There are exchange offices with good (but not the best) exchange rates and commissions. Read our review "Currency Exchange in the UAE".

You can book a transfer in advance, but there is no point. The price will be even higher than for a cab.
There is no problem getting into a taxi at Abu Dhabi airport, as there are always enough taxi cars. All the cabs are official and metered. What is the point of wasting your time and effort on ordering a transfer, which will cost more than a cab? There is no point.
Uber and Careem services work right now in Abu Dhabi. In 2016 Uber was banned, in 2018 it was allowed again. As of this page was updated (September 2022), they work, and you can save some money if using promo-codes.
However, we cannot guarantee anything. As the world practice shows, at any moment they can simply close or prohibit taking passengers at the airport.
Go ahead. If it doesn't work, take a cab.
Buses stop at the bus stations in the terminals are easy to find with help of the signs. The fare is fixed at AED 4. You can pay with a Hafilat Card, which you can buy from a vending machine.

Find your hotel
You can rent a car at the airport starting from AED 150 for a day. You can drive to your hotel, use the car for a day and rent it out somewhere in the city.
It is a very good way, but very hard. You need to find a renting company which has a point of presence somewhere near your hotel. And this requires a long and difficult work on the Internet.
If you want to try to search, then look at services: fastuae.com, budget-uae.com, thriftyuae.com, avis.ae
There is a convenient bus from the airport to Dubai for Etihad Airways customers. Look for the timetable on their official website. We don't post the timetable here, as the timetable changes periodically.
You can also take the E100 and E101 buses. And most importantly, there is the E102 bus directly from the airport. Read more in our article "From Abu Dhabi to Dubai".
