Palm Fountains - Guide for Tourists

Page update - Nov 25, 2022

Why are the Palm Fountains at Palm Jumeirah in Dubai interesting? How to get there? What is the show timetable? How much does it cost to watch? Is it worth seeing if you've already seen the Dubai Fountain show? Read the answers on this page.

All the information on this page has been updated in November 2022. And there's great news! The Pointe monorail station finally opened on 22 October 2022. Getting there is MUCH more convenient and a little cheaper. Read more details below on this page.

Another good news

On June 30, 2022, the Palm Fountains celebrated with a premiere. The repertoire now includes a highly dynamic show with the song "Jailhouse Rock" by Elvis Presley. The premiere commemorates the anniversary of Elvis Presley's famous June 27-30, 1968, performances and the release of the "Elvis" movie-concert.

A brief description of the attraction

The new record breaking fountains are located on the far edge of The Palm Jumeirah artificial island, between The Pointe promenade and the famous Atlantis the Palm hotel.

The Pointe is an entire open-air shopping center. The water and music show can be seen by everyone from the waterfront of The Pointe. There are about 80 restaurants, cafes and bars. But only 30 of them have tables overlooking the fountains.

The Palm Jumeirah Fountains are the largest in the world. The total area is 14,500 square feet (1,350 square meters). The main water cannons raise the jet of water up to 345 feet (105 meters). 3000 LED spotlights illuminate the water jets. The sound is provided by a powerful Hi-End system.

There are more than 20 songs in the repertoire of the fountains. The songs are in the styles of classical and popular music, as well as in the Arabic Khaliji style.

How to get there

Option 1: subway + cab. You need to take the subway to Dubai Internet City station on the red (first) line. See our page "Dubai subway" for the subway map and fares.

Take a cab from the subway station directly to The Pointe. An official metered cab will cost 20-25 dirhams. See our page "Money in the UAE" for the current dirhams (AED) exchange rates.

Option 2 - cab from the hotel. It is convenient, but expensive. It is impossible to predict the trip cost, it depends on the location of your hotel. It can be from 20 to 140 dirhams. See our page "Taxi cabs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi" for the official fares.

Option 3 - free Nakheel Mall Shuttle buses. Since August 17, 2021, they are running again (before they didn't work because of the coronavirus), but now the routes are different, and there are no routes from the metro stations. We hope they will, and then we'll be sure to write about it.

Option 4 - subway + monorail. The Pointe station opened on 22 October 2022. But unfortunately, the monorail and the subway don't have an interchange for now. Therefore, you must either take the metro+tram+monorail or walk from Al Khail or Dubai Internet City metro stations. Read more about the monorail in our review "Monorail in Dubai".

Either way, you will get to the Palm Gateway monorail station. The ticket price from Palm Gateway to The Pointe is AED 10 (one way) or AED 15 (round trip).

Hours of operation

From 7pm to midnight (19-00 to 00-00).

Shows are held every 30 minutes. The show lasts 3 minutes on average.

Viewing price

Free of charge.

However, due to covid-security measures, visitors to The Pointe during events and holidays may be required to reserve their attendance in advance at the official website . The measure is taken to prevent excessive crowds.

On ordinary days, reservations are not yet required. And hopefully will never be.

Where's the best place to see the fountains?

The fountains are divided into two parts - west and east. You can look at either part, they are the same.

Look from any point on the waterfront, there is not much difference. How the promenade looks like, see the photo near, click on the photo to enlarge to full screen.

You can see both parts of the fountains at once from the central beach of The Pointe waterfront. But you will watch the performance from the side and far away, so you won't see much.

Which is better and more interesting - the Palm Jumeirah Fountains or the Dubai Fountains?

Read our detailed page "The Dubai Fountain".

Despite their record size, the Palm Island Fountains are objectively inferior to the Dubai Fountains.

First, they have a simpler configuration of seven circles. And the Dubai Fountains have two more arcs, which makes the show more varied.

Second, the Dubai Fountains are unified and appear larger in size.

If for some reason you couldn't see the show at Palm Jumeirah, don't feel bad, you lost a little.

A technical miracle

The most interesting thing from a technical point of view is not above the water, but in the water itself. After all, the Palm Jumeirah fountains use salt water, and the systems are located in the sea water.

Any such system when dealing with salt water becomes a source of great problems. First of all there is rust in the pipes and units, then there is salt buildup. How does Nakheel Properties plan to deal with these problems? Time will show. Apparently, they have solutions, since they have built and launched this miracle.

What else to see nearby

There is a lot to see and do at The Pointe. There is an interesting entertainment center Cheeky Monkeys for children. There are also trampolines, a climbing wall, playgrounds and slides.

And do not forget about the 80 restaurants, cafes and fast food outlets. You can try almost every cuisine in the world there. The choice is no worse than in the Global Village.

But The Pointe is clearly weak when compared to the Dubai Mall or the Mall of Emirates. Hopefully the fountains will strengthen The Pointe's position. But so far this mall is only convenient and interesting for guests and residents of the Palm Jumeirah island.

By the way, you can try to watch for the inscription "Made in China" somewhere on the fountains. Logically, it should be there, because the Palm Fountains were created by the Chinese company Beijing Water Design Technology.

The Chinese told the whole world the cost of the project, 66 million dirhams (18 million US dollars). By the standards of the Emirate of Dubai, this is a very modest figure.

Important and useful tips

- You can go to The Pointe with dollars and euros. There is a "UAE Exchange" office. The rates are acceptable, although not the best in the Dubai city. Read our review "How and where to change money in the UAE";

- If you are interested in dancing fountains, we recommend to see to the Fountains of Sharjah;

- In the winter months in Dubai in the evening can be quite cold - up to 50°F (+10°C). You should dress warmly. Read our review "Weather in the UAE by month";

- If you're going on holiday to Dubai with kids, then you should definitely read our review "To the UAE with kids - simple rules".

Have a good holiday in the UAE, and read our interesting pages about this country (see list of the pages below).
