First line hotels in the UAE

Page update - Sep 28, 2022

Many tourists are used to Turkey, Tunisia, Egypt - used to rest in hotels with their own beach and All Inclusive. Is it possible to spend vacation like that in the UAE? And how much would it cost to have a vacation like this? Let's answer these questions on this page.

Are there any first line hotels in the UAE?

Of course there are. There are more than a hundred (totally) in all the seven emirates.

Of course this is not Turkey or Egypt, where hotels are lined up by the hundreds along the coastline. In the UAE, the vast majority of the beaches are public. There are hotels near these beaches within walking distance, and there are hotels with private beaches.

Are the first line hotels affordable by price?

It depends on the emirate. In some emirates, the average European tourist can afford to stay in a first-line hotel, but in some emirates the prices are off the charts. Next we will have to review the situation in each emirate separately. At the same time briefly talk about the pros and cons of each emirate.

For a map of the UAE with the emirates and airports, see our page "Map of the UAE".

Important notes

First! Tourism and hotel taxes in the UAE are quite high. We have written about them in detail in the review "Tourist taxes in the UAE". Therefore further on this page we will show the prices without taxes, but in brackets the prices including taxes.

Second! The concept of All Inclusive in different emirates and hotels in the UAE is understood differently. Somewhere alcoholic drinks are included in AI, but sometimes not. Somewhere the whole meal is included, and somewhere only breakfast, lunch, dinner are included, but snacks are for extra charge. Read our detailed review "All Inclusive in the Arab Emirates".

The Emirate of Umm Al Quwain

Umm Al Quwain is the smallest emirate in the UAE in terms of population. There is plenty of space there, and the beachline is 31 miles (50 kilometers) long. However, the Umm Al Quwain emirate has not become a large tourist center.

There are only 7 hotels, not counting small guest houses, villas and apartments for rent.

Five of them have their own private beaches: Flamingo Beach Resort 4*, Pearl Hotel & Spa 4*, Palma Beach Resort & Spa 4*, Umm Al Quwain Beach Hotel 4*, Barracuda Beach Resort 4*.

The prices are quite reasonable - from USD 50 (60) per night. Tours (7 nights, 2 people) starting at USD 1,100.

2 of 7 are far from the coast: Royal Residence Resort 3*, Royal Residence Hotel 3*.

1 of the 7 at the time of update of this page (2022 year) provides All Inclusive - that's Flamingo Beach Resort 4*.

The pros of the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain:

- Affordable prices for vacation in first-line hotels;

- The emirate has its own water park DreamLand, which is cheaper than Dubai water parks.

The cons of the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain:

- Other than the mentioned water park, there is almost no other entertainment in the emirate. Even in the local Mall of UAQ, the largest shopping center, there is only a movie theater and a small area with a few game machines and a children's soft maze;

- There is no public transport in the emirate, and you have to go everywhere only by cab, which is hard for the wallet;

- It is expensive or tedious to get to Dubai to see the main attractions in the UAE. There are no buses between Dubai and Umm Al Quwain. You have to take a cab or try to catch the bus passing by, and there's no guarantee you'll catch one. Read more in our review "How to get from Umm Al Quwain to Dubai";

- Long and expensive transfer from airport to hotel. From Dubai airport, by cab - 150-180 dirhams, time - more than an hour. For the current exchange rates, see our review "What is the money in the UAE";

- Infrastructure in the emirate is poorly developed, which is a consequence of the small population. Stores, cafes, and restaurants are few.

If you decide to spend your vacation in Umm Al Quwain, then we recommend you look closely at the hotel Barracuda Beach Resort. It is very well located - right next to the water park. The hotel has a large liquor store, Barracuda Wine Shop.

The Emirate of Ajman

Ajman is the smallest emirate in the UAE in terms of area. There are only 4.5 miles (7 kilometers) of coastline, and almost all of it is either built up or occupied by public beaches.

In Ajman, there are about 30 hotels, six of which have their own beach: The Oberoi Beach Resort Al Zorah 5*, Ajman Saray 5*, Ajman Hotel 5*, Ajman Beach Hotel 3*, Bahi Ajman Palace 5*, and Fairmont Ajman 5*.

The vacation prices there are high - about USD 120 (150) per night, and only Ajman Beach Hotel can be called affordable - USD 70 (85) per night. A tour to Ajman Beach Hotel (7 nights, 2 people) costs from USD 900.

Another 3 hotels are on the first line, but the beach is across the street and the beach is public. These are: Ramada Beach Hotel Ajman 4*, Wyndham Garden Ajman Corniche 4*, OYO 194 Mermaid Beach 2*. The prices start at USD 60 (80), with tours starting at USD 850.

Only two - Ajman Saray and Ramada Beach provide an All Inclusive system.

The pros of the Emirate of Ajman:

- Affordable prices for beachfront hotels;

- Since the population density in Ajman is relatively high, the infrastructure there is developed quite well - a lot of cafes, restaurants, stores, there is a large by the local standards Ajman City Center Mall;

The cons of the Emirate of Ajman:

- The set of local attractions is very modest: Ajman Fort, Fish Market, Dhow Boat Shipyard. All this is enough for one day, then it would be boring;

- Going to Dubai to see the best sights in the UAE is expensive by cab or is long by the E400 bus. You can go once during a vacation, but several times will be tiring. Read more in our review "How to get from Ajman to Dubai";

If you want to vacation in Ajman but are tight on budget, consider the OYO 194 Mermaid Beach hotel. You can stay there for USD 50 (60) per night.

The Emirate of Fujairah

Fujairah is primarily known for its location on the Indian Ocean coast, rather than the Persian Gulf coast like the other six emirates. The territory of Fujairah is divided into north and south (roughly in half) by the small Fokkan district, which belongs to Sharjah.

Fujairah has 10 hotels with their own beach. 5 of which are concentrated in the north - in the town of Dibba. These are: Radisson Blu Resort Fujairah 5*, Royal Beach Hotel & Resort 4*, Holiday Beach Resort 4*, Fairmont Fujairah Beach Resort 5*, Mirage Bab Al Bahr 4*.

More 5 hotels with private beach are located at the south (main) part: InterContinental Fujairah Resort 5*, Fujairah Rotana Resort & Spa 5*, Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort 5*, Sandy Beach Hotel & Resort 4*, Iberotel Miramar Al Aqah Beach Resort 5*.

The prices start at USD 55 (75) per night, with tours (7 nights, 2 people) starting at USD 900.

There are 4 hotels in the southern part that are within walking distance of the public beach. These are: V Hotel Fujairah 4*, Fortune Royal Hotel 4*, Fujairah Hotel & Resort, Siji Hotel Apartments. One private beach is Blue Diamond Al Salam Resort 5*.

The prices are similar - from USD 55 (75) per night, tours from USD 900.

The pros of the Emirate of Fujairah:

- Affordable prices for beachfront hotels;

- The climate on the Indian Ocean coast is a little nicer. See our review "Weather in the UAE" for details;

The cons of the Emirate of Fujairah:

- There are almost no attractions and entertainment in Fujairah;

- The trip from the airport to the hotel is very long - more than 1.5 hours by bus or cab. The cab ride price is 240 dirhams;

- Going to Dubai by cab is very expensive, by bus is long and tiring. The average tourist usually goes no more than once per vacation. Read more in our review "How to get from Fujairah to Dubai";

- Most hotels are far from populated areas. You have to take a cab even for a store or pharmacy, and it's not cheap at all.

At the time of update of this page (year 2022), 7 hotels offer All Inclusive: V Hotel Fujairah, Fujairah Rotana Resort & Spa, Radisson Blu Resort Fujairah, InterContinental Fujairah Resort, Fairmont Fujairah Beach Resort, Iberotel Miramar Al Aqah Beach, Mirage Bab Al Bahr, Sandy Beach Hotel & Resort.

Keep in mind that it is relatively easy to get to Dubai from the hotels in the southern part of Fujairah. But from the northern part, it is very difficult, because you first have to get to the capital of the emirate in the south. There is almost no infrastructure in the northern part. The northern part of Fujairah is a place exclusively for those who need only the beach.

The Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah is located in the north of the country. Most hotels with their own beach are concentrated in the southwestern part of the emirate - in the areas of Al Hamra Village and Bab Al Bahr. They are mostly expensive five-star hotels and the prices can be frightening.

In the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, there are 10 hotels with its own beach, these are: DoubleTree by Hilton Resort & Spa 5*, Smartline Bin Majid Beach Resort 4*, Rixos Bab Al Bahr 5*, Al Hamra Residence and Village 5*, Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah 5*, Hilton Al Hamra Beach & Golf Resort 5*, The Cove Rotana Resort 5*, The Ritz-Carlton Ras Al Khaimah 5*, Bin Majid Beach Hotel 4*, Hilton Ras Al Khaimah Resort & Spa 5*.

For an average tourist, only Bin Majid Beach Hotel can be considered affordable as the price per night is USD 60 (75). The prices in other hotels start from USD 100 (120), the tour price (7 nights, 2 people) starts from USD 1150.

In the area of Bab Al Bahr is the Marjan Island Resort & Spa 5*. It does not have its own beach, but the public beach is 300 feet (100 meters) away, and it is completely empty. Take a closer look at this hotel, the price per night - from USD 75 (90), the tour can be bought from USD 850.

The pros of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah:

- Expensive "fives" at a lower price than in Dubai, and the quality is not worse;

- The climate is slightly milder, since there are mountains nearby.

The cons of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah:

- The drive from the airport to the hotel is very long - more than 1.5 hours. It is very expensive to ride by cab - about 230 dirhams;

- There are almost no entertainments and attractions in Ras Al Khaimah. It used to have its own water park IceLand, but in 2018 it closed first for renovation, then forever. It's going to be boring;

- In addition, the hotels are not close to town, but far to the southwest. You have to take a cab to the city - 40-50 dirhams one way;

- The way to Dubai is long and tiring. By cab - from 200 dirhams, by bus is very long. Read more in our review "How to get from Ras Al Khaimah to Dubai".

The Emirate of Sharjah

There are many hotels in Sharjah - over a hundred, but they are all in the heart of the city, far from the beaches.

There are only 9 hotels with their own beach. These are: Coral Beach Resort Sharjah 4*, Sheraton Sharjah Beach Resort & Spa 5*, Radisson Blu Resort Sharjah 5*, Golden Beach 3*, Sahara Beach Resort & Spa 5*, Lou'Lou'a Beach Resort 3*, Beach Hotel Sharjah 3*, Occidental Sharjah Grand 4*, Sharjah Carlton Hotel 4*.

There are no very expensive and luxurious among them. The prices start from USD 70 (85) per night, the tour (7 nights, 2 people) starts from USD 900.

Holidaymakers in other hotels will have to go to public beaches. Fortunately, there are a lot of them in Sharjah, the beaches are great. Read our detailed review "Best beaches in Sharjah".

There are also three dozen hotels, motels, aparthotels, villas and apartments, which are within walking distance (no more than 600 feet, 200 meters) from the public beaches. The list of the hotels: Dana Beach Hotel 1*, Green House Resort 3*, Al Amwaj Hotel 2*, Villa Alisa 2*, Sharjah Premiere Hotel & Resort 4*, Red Castle Hotel 4*, Marhaba Resort 3*, Ewan Hotel Sharjah 4*, Al Seef Hotel 3*, Summer Land Motel, Lavender Hotel Sharjah 4*, TIME Ruby Hotel Apartments 3*.

The prices are lower - from USD 40 (50) per night, tours - from USD 800.

Some hotels offer an All Inclusive system, but WITHOUT alcohol, as the sale of alcohol is generally prohibited in the Emirate of Sharjah.

The pros of the Emirate of Sharjah:

- Its own international airport, from where you can get to the hotel quickly and inexpensively. For prices and travel time, read our review "How to get from Sharjah Airport to the city";

- Lower prices in stores, cafes, restaurants when compared to Dubai and Abu Dhabi;

- Excellent array of local entertainment and facilities: Sharjah Aquarium, Fountains of Sharjah, Museum of Islamic Civilisation and other museums, Al Noor Mosque, several large shopping malls including Mega Mall and City Centre Sharjah;

- It is quick and inexpensive to get to Dubai, thankfully it's Sharjah's neighboring emirate. See our review "How to get from Sharjah to Dubai" for more details;

- Sharjah is a big city with many stores, cafes, and restaurants.

The cons of the Emirate of Sharjah:

- It is illegal to sell alcohol in the Emirate of Sharjah, but drinking is no longer punishable (starting from November 8, 2020). Read our detailed review "Alcohol in Sharjah and the UAE";

- Sharjah has a stricter dress code. We talked about this in detail in the review "What tourists should not do in the UAE".

Sharjah Emirate - Khor Fakkan

Khor Fakkan is a small district in the Emirate of Sharjah, but it is located on the shores of the Indian Ocean, 75 miles (120 kilometers) to the east.

There is only one hotel there at all - Oceanic Khorfakkan Resort & Spa 4*, with its own beach. Room rates are USD 85 (110) per night, tours (7 nights, 2 people) start at USD 750.

The pros of the Khor Fakkan:

- Good beach;

- Affordable vacation prices.

The cons of the Khor Fakkan:

- Far from Dubai, airports;

- Right in front of the beach is a cargo port, so water quality is questionable. Although tourists do not complain.

Khor Fokkan beach is even taken on excursions on the program "Trip to the Indian Ocean". This beach is considered one of the centers of water sports in the UAE.

The Emirate of Abu Dhabi

In the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, beach hotels are only in Abu Dhabi (the capital of the UAE) and on the island of Sir Bani Yas.

There is only one hotel on Sir Bani Yas Island. It is Desert Islands Resort & Spa 5*, and it has its own beach. The room price - from USD 200 (240), the tour (7 nights, 2 people) - from USD 2500.

There are over a hundred hotels in the city of Abu Dhabi, and that's not counting apartments, villas, mini-hotels, and motels. Of these, 15 have their own beach.

In the central part of the city: Emirates Palace 5*, Shaik Hizza Palace 5*, Fairmont Marina Abu Dhabi 5*, Al Gurm Resort 5*, InterContinental Abu Dhabi 5*, Jumeirah At Etihad Towers 5*, Grand Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel & Residences Emirates Pearl 5*, Bab Al Qasr Hotel 5*, Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana 5*, Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel & Resort 5*.

On Saadiyat Island: The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort 5*, Rixos Saadiyat Island Abu Dhabi 5*, Saadiyat Rotana Resort & Villas 5*, Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas 5*, Jumeirah at Saadiyat Island Resort 5*.

All these are expensive 5-stars, don't even expect prices less than USD 120 (150) per night. The tour price (7 nights, 2 people) starts from USD 1,200.

There are a few hotels that are close to the public beach or even have their own pieces on the public beaches.

In the central part of the city, along the Corniche Waterfront: Radisson Blu Hotel & Resort Corniche 5*, The St. Regis Abu Dhabi 5*.

On Yas Island, the hotels do not have their own beaches, but are close to the private Yas Beach, to which guests have free admission. Hotels: Centro Yas Island 3*, Yas Island Rotana 4*, Park Inn by Radisson Abu Dhabi 3*, Radisson Blu Hotel Abu Dhabi Yas Island 4*, Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi - Yas Island 4*, Staybridge Suites Abu Dhabi - Yas Island 4*, Yas Hotel Abu Dhabi 5*.

Prices start at USD 60 (75) per night, tour (7 nights, 2 people) from USD 1,150.

There are two other hotels, which have a mixed situation. These are Le Meridien Abu Dhabi 5* and Beach Rotana 5*. They have their own beaches, but they are not on the Persian Gulf, but on the shore of the local canal, which looks more like a river than the sea. If it suits you, look at these hotels, maybe the price will suit you.

Holidaymakers in other hotels have only to go to the public beaches of Abu Dhabi, thankfully there are many. Read our detailed review "The best beaches in Abu Dhabi".

The pros of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi:

- A great array of local entertainment and attractions: the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Heritage Village, Observations deck at 300, Ferrari World, Yas WaterWorld, Warner Bros. parks and more;

- Abu Dhabi has its own international airport, just east of the city. See our review "How to get from Abu Dhabi Airport to the city" for details;

- Getting to Dubai is not difficult, the easiest way is by bus. Read the details in our review "How to get from Abu Dhabi to Dubai".

The cons of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi:

- Very weak range of hotels on the first line, only expensive fives, and there are no budget options at all;

- Everything is expensive, after all the capital of the country.

The Emirate of Dubai

Dubai is the largest city in the UAE in terms of population. There are more than 600 hotels, and more guest houses, motels, apartments and villas for rent. So we will talk about each area of the city of Dubai separately, moving from east to west. For the map of Dubai with beaches see our review "Dubai's Best Beaches".

The Deira area has only one beach, Al Mamzar, and there are no hotels on it or along it at all. All hotels are in the back of the area, far from the shore. There are three little exceptions to this rule, of which we will tell you a little about.

The Centara Mirage Beach 4* and Riu Dubai 4* hotels have their own beaches. But these hotels are not located in the Deira area itself, but on Deira Island, which is separated from the "mainland" by a bridge. Deira island is not yet built up, and there is almost no infrastructure there.

Park Hyatt Dubai has its own beach, but it is not a beach in the sea, but a beach in the pool, which is directly adjacent to the Creek Channel (the sea arm). It looks like this. Does it count as its own beach? It's an open question.

The Bur Dubai area has no beaches at all.

In the Jumeirah area is the longest beach in Dubai - Jumeirah Beach. Its public part is 8.5 miles (14 kilometers) long - from Jumeirah Mosque to Burj Al Arab. There is only one hotel with a private beach on this huge beach - it is the Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach 5*. The price is USD 500 (600) per night. The tour (7 nights, 2 people) is from USD 2,000.

Two more hotels along Jumeirah Beach have a beach within walking distance - Dubai Marine Beach Resort & Spa 5* and Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah 5*. Prices start at USD 180 (230) per night, with tours starting at USD 1,500.

Further west are two of Dubai's most famous hotels, the Burj Al Arab sail-shaped hotel and the Jumeirah Beach wave-shaped hotel. Both have their own private beach, and they both share one. The Jumeirah Beach Hotel vacation price is from USD 350 per night, the tour price is from USD 3,000. The price of a vacation at the Burj Al Arab is from USD 1,000 a night, the tour is from USD 8,000.

Further west is the elite resort of Madinat. There are 4 hotels there: Jumeirah Mina A'Salam 5*, Jumeirah Al Qasr 5*, Jumeirah Dar Al Masyaf 5*, Jumeirah Al Naseem 5*. These hotels have their own huge private beach, but one for everyone. Prices start from USD 500 (600) per night, the tour starts from USD 2,500.

Further west are private villas and apartments, no hotels.

There are 15 hotels with private beaches on The Palm Jumeirah: Atlantis The Palm 5*, Kempinski Hotel & Residences Palm Jumeirah 5*, Emerald Palace Kempinski Dubai 5*, W Dubai The Palm 5*, Jumeirah Zabeel Saray 5*, One & Only The Palm 5*, Sofitel Dubai The Palm 5*, The Retreat Palm Dubai Mgallery 4*, Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah 5*, Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort 5*, Royal Central Hotel The Palm 5*, Rixos The Palm Dubai Hotel & Suites 5*, FIVE Palm Jumeirah Hotel 5*, Fairmont The Palm 5*.

They are all expensive "fives", with prices starting from USD 200 (250) per night and tours starting from USD 1,500. But they often have special offers and lower prices. Look for it, maybe there will be a "good" price for accommodation or tours.

Further west are 3 more hotels with private beaches: One & Only Royal Mirage 5*, The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina 5*, Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina 5*. Prices - from USD 200 (250) per night, the tour - from USD 1,500.

In the area of Dubai Marina is the famous beach JBR - the most famous and most well-appointed beach in Dubai. The western half of this beach is completely public, there are no hotels with private beaches.

In the eastern part, there are zones, conditionally assigned to the hotels: Habtoor Grand Resort Autograph Collection 5*, Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort & Spa 5*, The Ritz-Carlton Dubai 5*, Movenpick Hotel Jumeirah Beach 5*, Rixos Premium Dubai JBR 5*, Hilton Dubai Jumeirah 5*. All of these are expensive "fives", with prices starting at USD 150 (185) per night, with tours starting at USD 1,500.

There are several hotels on the west side that do not have a private beach, but are right next to the public beach of the JBR. The hotels are Hilton Dubai The Walk 4*, Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach 5*, Amwaj Rotana 5*, JA Ocean View Hotel 5*, Sheraton Jumeirah Beach Resort 5*, DoubleTree by Hilton Jumeirah Beach 4*. Prices are a little lower - from USD 120 (150) per night, the tour - from USD 1,400.

The pros of the Emirate of Dubai:

- Huge amount of local entertainment and attractions: the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall, Wild Wadi and Aquaventure water parks, Legoland Park, the Dubai Fountain and much more;

- Getting around the city is very easy as there is the Dubai Metro subway system. Read about it in our detailed review "Dubai Metro";

- There is an international airport, located in the east of the city. Read the details in our review "How to get from Dubai Airport to the city";

- The infrastructure is excellent, there are many restaurants, cafes, stores, fast and street food, and shopping centers.

The cons of the Emirate of Dubai:

- Everything is very expensive compared to the other emirates.

If you have enough money, choose Dubai or Abu Dhabi. See the list of first-line hotels in Dubai and Abu Dhabi above on this page.

If you want to vacation in the UAE in a hotel with its own beach cheap, then the best choice is Sharjah. There are affordable hotels, lots of attractions, and excellent beaches. However, remember that alcohol is prohibited in Sharjah. See the list of first-line hotels in Sharjah above on this page.

If you want to vacation in a first-line hotel cheap, but with alcohol, then the best choice is Ajman or Fujairah. Alcohol is most welcome there, and the prices are reasonable. See the list of first-line hotels in Ajman and Fujairah above on this page.

And keep in mind the seasonality. You may not be able to afford a first beach line holiday in winter (peak season), but in summer or during Ramadan it is quite possible.

Have a great vacation in the UAE, and read our interesting pages about this country (see the list of the pages below).
