Construction was carried out from 2007 to 2009, the total cost of the project - 4.8 billion dirhams (USD 1.3 billion). This is about the same amount as the cost of the Burj Khalifa.

The Yas Marina track was designed by Herman Tilke - the most famous designer of race tracks of our time.

However, German Tilke's projects are often criticized. There even is the word "tilkedrome", alluding to their uniformity and boredom. Yas Marina is a classic "tilkedrome", that is, do not expect beautiful overtaking and fierce fighting.

Where is it located and how to get there

The Yas Marina track is located on Yas Island, 12.5 miles (20 kilometers) east of the Abu Dhabi downtown.

If you are vacationing in a hotel on Yas Island, you can walk to it. Yas Island hotels are across the street from the track, and the Yas Viceroy Hotel is directly above the racetrack. See the photos near, click on the photo to enlarge to full screen.

If vacationing at a hotel in Abu Dhabi city, the easiest way to get there is by cab. The price of the trip is from 35 to 65 dirhams, it depends on the location of your hotel. For the current exchange rate of UAE currency, see our review "Money in the UAE" and the fares in the review "Taxis in the UAE".

You can save money by taking the bus, the price of a bus ticket is only 4 dirhams. In 2019-2020, the network of bus routes in Abu Dhabi has changed a lot. Buses 180 and 190 (used to go to Yas Island) are now gone. But they have extended the 102 route.

The 102 bus is the most convenient for tourists. It goes through the central part of the city of Abu Dhabi and then comes to Yas Island. Chances are good that somewhere near your hotel there is a stop of the 102 bus. Ask at the hotel front desk, they usually know. If there is no stop nearby, take a cab to Zayed Sport City or Abu Dhabi Bus Station and you can catch the 102 there.

The 216 bus runs on the east side of the city, where there are few hotels and not much use for tourists. The A19 bus runs from the airport to Yas Island and on to Saadiyat Island.
