IMG Worlds park in Dubai

Page update - Oct 26, 2022

What attractions await visitors at the IMG Worlds amusement park in Dubai? How much does the ticket cost? How to buy tickets cheaper? What is the best way to get there? When is the best time to arrive so that you don't have to wait in lines? Or maybe it's better to choose a different amusement park? Read the answers on this page.

By the situation of October 2022, IMG Worlds of Adventure Park is operating normally. As of September 28, 2022, it is no longer mandatory to wear masks inside cafes and restaurants, stores and malls, hotels, and airports in the UAE. However! The authorities have not said anything about amusement parks. Therefore, the situation is still legally uncertain, and each park sets its own rules. IMG Worlds Park does NOT require you to wear masks.

Brief description

IMG Worlds of Adventure is a fully indoor and air-conditioned theme park in the Emirate of Dubai. This 35-acres (14-hectares), 10-story-high park features dinosaurs, Marvel Universe characters, Cartoon Network's characters, attractions for all ages, and a 12-screen movie theater.

When it opened in 2016, it became the largest indoor amusement park in the world, surpassing the famous Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi. But in 2018, the IMG park lost that title, losing it to Warner Bros. Park in Abu Dhabi (37.8 actres, 15.3 hectares).

The total cost of building IMG Park was 3.6 billion UAE dirhams, almost a billion US dollars, which compares to the cost of building the Burj Al Arab.

16 attractions await visitors inside. Among them: 3 roller coasters, 4 scenery rides, 3 3D and 5D movie theaters, 2 extreme carousels, 2 children's playgrounds, and 2 children's carousels. One of the playgrounds needs an additional fee.

There are only four "adrenaline" rides there. They are: "The Velociraptor" and "Predator" roller coasters, "Thor Thunder Spin" swing, and "The Powerpuff Girls" merry-go-round. We will talk about all the rides in the second part of this review.

The park is divided into five themed zones, called "epic zones". These are: Lost Valley (dinosaurs), Marvel, Cartoon Network, IMG Boulevard, Novo Cinema. In each zone, you can talk and take pictures with characters of movies, comics, and cartoons, and watch scenes with their participation.

Who is the IMG park aimed at?

For children from the age of 8 years old. A child of 4 ft 1.2 in (125 centimeters) tall (usually 8 years old) can enjoy 14 of the 16 attractions.

IMG Park will be clearly boring for very young children, because there are almost no playgrounds for them there. There are few attractions for children ages 4-8, but is it worth it to pay very expensive entrance fees? It is an open question. In our opinion, if your child is 4-8 years old then it is better to go to LEGOLAND or MOTIONGATE.

IMG Worlds vs. MOTIONGATE

Tickets to Dubai's amusement parks are expensive, and many tourists are forced to choose one because of money shortage. IMG and MOTIONGATE parks in Dubai are direct competitors to each other, as they have similar sets of rides and similar styling.

Which one is better? There can be different opinions. In our opinion, MOTIONGATE is clearly superior to IMG.

First, in terms of the set of attractions. The set of "adrenaline" rides in both parks is almost the same. But there are more and better attractions for kids in MOTIONGATE.

Secondly, in terms of stylization. The characters of Shrek, Madagascar, and Kung Fu Panda are much closer to most children than Cartoon Network.

Thirdly, the entrance ticket to MOTIONGATE is cheaper and the transportation is cheaper.

The only clear advantage of IMG is that it is completely indoors, while MOTIONGATE is only half-indoors. But this advantage is relevant only in the hot summer months, and in the period from November to March it is not even an advantage, but rather a disadvantage.

Where is it located and how to get there

IMG Worlds park is located in the southeast of Dubai City in the City of Arabia neighborhood. This place is very far from the main transport routes. It is long or expensive to get there. There are no city buses to the park, only three of them pass by and don't stop nearby (routes 97, 103, 104).

Option 1 is subway + cab.

You need to go to the Mall of the Emirates (red line) subway station closest to IMG Park. From there, take a cab to the park. The trip cost is about 55 dirhams. See the actual exchange rates of dirham in our review "Money in Dubai and the UAE".

An alternative route is to take to Centrepoint (former Al Rashidiya) subway station (red line). The cab ride from this station will cost 60 dirhams.

Choose the subway station of these two you are closer to. For the subway map with all the latest updates see our review "Dubai Metro".

Option 2 - take a cab from the hotel directly to the park.

It is difficult to predict the cost of the trip, as Dubai is large, and the cost depends on the distance from the hotel to the park. It can be from 60 to 100 dirhams. See our review "Taxis in Dubai and other emirates" for fares.

Free shuttles

Warning! As of October 2022, the free IMG World park buses are NOT running. And even the administration doesn't know when they will run, or if they will run at all. We asked them. They don't know. The next block of information is temporarily irrelevant. Don't read it, keep scrolling.

There are six free buses from different parts of the city to the park. The buses pick up guests daily from hotels and shopping centers. To board such a bus, you must present a ticket purchased in advance on the website. Unfortunately, the buses make only one trip in the morning and one trip back in the evening.

Unfortunately, the schedule of these free buses has already been "reshaped" several times. So this method is very unreliable.

The number of seats is limited, and if there are no seats, then take a cab. The park administration recommends checking the schedule with the guest service in advance and informing them that you're going to use the free bus from a particular hotel. E-mail: GuestRelations@imgworlds.com or phone: +971 4 403 8888.

How much do tickets cost

All tickets to IMG Park are non-exchangeable, non-refundable, non-saleable, and non-transferable. Even single tickets when purchased through the website are named, and identification may be required at the entrance.

It is best to buy tickets online in advance, as the park's capacity is limited by covid security measures. The box office at the entrance is now (October 2022) open and the ticket price at the box office is the same as on the website. However, if the park is full, they will not sell tickets at the box office. Buy through the website to guarantee admission to the park.

Ticket price is 345 dirhams (including VAT).

Children up to 1.05 meters (3 ft 5.3 in) tall are free.

The ticket comes with a AED 50 Food Voucher which can be used in any of the 28 cafes or restaurants within the park.

Many tourists think this price is too high. However, by Dubai standards it is a normal price. Having fun in Dubai in general is expensive. Do you want it cheaper? Read our review "How to get cheap tickets to Dubai parks".

Storage lockers: 45 dirhams for small, 55 for medium, 60 for large.

If you want to visit IMG Park at least a second time, it is already profitable to buy an Annual Pass - a pass for one year, which costs 525 dirhams.

Fast Track and Ultimate Fast Track

This is a special pass that allows you to enter the rides without queuing. Fast Track costs 125 dirhams and allows you to enter without queuing for 3 rides. Ultimate Fast Track costs 195 dirhams and allows you to enter without queuing all day with no restrictions.

On weekdays, the Fast Track pass is almost useless as there are almost no queues. On weekends, the Fast Track makes life a lot easier.

Working hours

Monday to Thursday: from noon to 10 pm (12-00 to 22-00).

Friday to Sunday: from noon to 11 pm (12-00 to 23-00).

When is the best time to visit

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are the best days. There will be a minimum of people and no queues.

As of January 3, 2022, the United Arab Emirates introduced a new 4½-day work week. Now the official weekends in the country are Friday from noon, Saturday, and Sunday. Read more in our review "Weekends and Fridays in the UAE". Weekends are crowded, and it's best not to go so you don't have to wait in lines.

Public holidays are just as unlucky as weekends, there are a lot of people. See our review "Public holidays in the UAE" for the public holidays schedule.

And the best time to arrive is during Ramadan. Half of the population of the UAE are Muslims, and they are not supposed to have fun in the holy month of Ramadan. During Ramadan, there are always a minimum of people. For a schedule, see our review "Ramadan in Dubai and the UAE".

Rides and attractions

Lost Valley Zone

This area is stylized with a dinosaur theme. As experience shows, dinosaurs in amusement parks are a win-win theme. Two of the best rides in the park are located in this area, so let's start with them.

The Velociraptor

The minimum height for riding is 1.3 meters (4 ft 3.2 in).

It's a real extreme "roller coaster" with a full dead loop and two 360 degree flips. The ride is stylized as a walk in the park with dinosaurs.

Length of the track - 3460 feet (1055 meters), height - up to 124.5 feet (38 meters), speed - up to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour), the duration of the active phase of the ride - 1 minute, acceleration - up to 3.6G.

Naturally, such a ride could not fit inside the park, so the track is outdoors. However, you won't feel discomfort even in the hottest summer heat as you just won't have time.

Predator

The minimum height for riding is 1.25 meters (4 ft 1.2 in).

The second extreme roller coaster, also with a dead loop and a 360-degree rollover. It is smaller in size and fit inside the park building.

The length of the track - 1185 feet (361 meters), height - up to 72 feet (22 meters), speed - up to 43.5 miles per hour (70 kilometers per hour), the duration of the active phase of the ride - 30 seconds, acceleration - up to 4.5G.

There is no stylization on this ride. Do you need it?

Forbidden Territory

The minimum height for riding alone is 1.3 meters (4 ft 3.2 in). If accompanied by an adult - 1.05 meters (3 ft 5.3 in).

Visitors board a safari jeep-style wagon and slowly ride through the park with dinosaur scenery. The narrator's voice tells about the different kinds of dinosaurs, but only in English. Informative and almost not scary.

Dino Carousel

The minimum height for riding is 1.05 meters (3 ft 5.3 in).

A simple children's carousel with dinosaurs. There's not even a story to tell.

Adventure Fortress

The minimum height for riding alone is 1.25 meters (4 ft 1.2 in). If accompanied by an adult - 0.95 meters (3 ft 1.4 in).

A children's labyrinth with three slides, one of which is very high. An interesting thing about this slide is that you can ride it on a special sheet.

Cartoon Network Zone

Rides in this zone are stylized as adventures of Cartoon Network series characters.

The Powerpuff Girls - Mojo Jojo's Robot Rampage!

The minimum height for riding alone is 1.35 meters (4 ft 5.2 in). If accompanied by an adult - 1.25 meters (4 ft 1.2 in).

A seemingly harmless carousel, the ride begins very quietly. But then gondolas with visitors begin to swing first 90 degrees, and then all 360 degrees. The ride is stylized as the cartoon series "Superkids", which is shown on Cartoon Network, but it hasn't gained super popularity.

Ben 10 5D Hero Time

The minimum height for riding alone is 1.3 meters (4 ft 3.2 in). If accompanied by an adult - no restrictions.

Large 5D movie theater with moving seats, wind and splash effects. The cartoon shows the battle between the hero Ben and the villain from the animated series "Ben 10".

Adventure Time - The Ride of OOO

The minimum height for riding alone is 1.3 meters (4 ft 3.2 in). If accompanied by an adult - no restrictions.

Visitors ride in a gondola that moves on a rail at the top. The gondola is styled like the balloon from the cartoon series Adventure Time. The ride is slow, takes place under the roof, and is more like a sightseeing tour of the Cartoon Network area. Periodically, the gondola pulls into rooms with decorations and characters from the "Adventure Time" cartoon series.

The Amazing Ride of Gumball

The minimum height for riding alone is 1.2 meters (3 ft 11.2 in). If accompanied by an adult - no restrictions.

A slow-paced ride through the backdrop of the animated series The Amazing World of Gumball. Shoot robots, ghosts and other foes with your laser gun along the way.

LazyTown

It ranges in height from 0.9 to 1.6 meters (from 2 ft 11.4 in to 5 ft 3 in).

This is a playground with a mesh maze and other activities.

Attention! Requires an additional fee of 25 dirhams per person and advance reservation if you want to guarantee yourself a seat.

Marvel Zone

In this area, the attractions are dedicated to the super-heroes of the Marvel Universe: Spider-Man, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Captain America and others.

Avengers Battle of Ultron

The minimum height for riding alone is 1.3 meters (4 ft 3.2 in). If accompanied by an adult - 1.05 meters (3 ft 5.3 in).

Visitors sit in a chair in a cabin for 12 people, wearing 3D glasses. This booth rides along screens showing battle scenes of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Falcon Eye, Black Widow, and Captain America with an army of Ultron robots.

Spider-Man Doc Ock's Revenge

The minimum height for riding alone is 1.2 meters (3 ft 11.2 in). If accompanied by an adult - 1.05 meters (3 ft 5.3 in).

The roller coaster simulating the flight of Spider-Man among the skyscrapers of the big city. The length of the track is only 1,300 feet (400 meters), the speed there is not very high, there are few turns, and there are no extreme elements at all. The main "feature" of these slides is that the trolleys rotate on their axis.

Thor Thunder Spin

The minimum height for riding is 1.4 meters (4 ft 7.1 in).

Perhaps the most extreme ride at IMG Park. It is a huge swing with a capacity of 40 people. We strongly recommend that you watch the other visitors first and then decide if you want to ride or not. Be careful with your shoes, many riders have them falling off their feet during the ride.

How does this ride look ? See the photo next to it, click on the photo to enlarge it to full screen.

Hulk Epsilon Base 3D

The minimum height for riding is 1 meter (3 ft 3.3 in).

This is a very unusual 3D cinema - with a 360 degree view. The audience is seated on chairs in a circle on a large platform, and this platform moves and tilts in the course of the movie. The movie shows another battle between the Hulk and the Avengers. Very unusual, a must-see for fans of 3D cinemas.

Avengers Flight of the Quinjets

The minimum height for riding alone is 1.3 meters (4 ft 3.2 in). If accompanied by an adult - 1.05 meters (3 ft 5.3 in).

It is a small merry-go-round where the gondolas also rotate around their axis. The ride is not fast or extreme at all.

IMG Boulevard Area

There's only one attraction, but what an attraction!

The Haunted Hotel

The minimum age is 15.

Attention! Fast Track and Ultimate Fast Track passes are not valid on this ride.

This attraction is considered the highlight of IMG Park. Visitors will be taken on a walk through a house with ghosts, zombies, and other unholy things. Live actors work inside, which undoubtedly adds a lot of realism. Such attractions are usually called a "Haunted house" or a "Ghost house".

However, it's not so scary. So far The Haunted Hotel IMG has not appeared in any of the world rankings of "haunted houses".

Novo Cinemas area

It is a movie theater with 12 auditoriums, including VIP rooms with waiter service and one IMAX screen of 80x45 feet (24.4x13.8 meters). Movies are shown mostly in English, Hindi, Malay.

Tips and important points for visitors

- It is forbidden to bring drinks or food inside, the only exception is for baby food. So we recommend that you go well-fed as you won't eat much for a 50 dirham voucher inside (if you have got this voucher);

- There are changing rooms in each of the five toilets in each of the five areas. You can rent a baby carriage at the entrance - 40 dirhams for a regular one, 60 dirhams for a two-seater;

- Do not bring backpacks or bags. Most rides are not accessible with bags. Storage lockers are chargeable;

- Any child under the age of 12 inside the park must be accompanied by a person 16 years of age or older;

- Smoking is not allowed in the park. To smoke, you will have to go outside the park. In order to return, you must stamp your ticket for return. Read our detailed review "Smoking in Dubai and the UAE" for the smoking rules in the UAE;

- Being drunk in the park is strictly prohibited. Drinking alcohol (if you somehow manage to sneak it inside) all the more so, for that you can not only get a fine, but also jail time. Read the details in our review "Alcohol in Dubai and the UAE";

- The park is air conditioned. Therefore, we do not recommend dressing lightly. In addition, there is a lax dress code, as in all public places in Dubai. Read more in our review "What you can't do in Dubai as a tourist".

Have fun in Dubai, and read our interesting pages about the UAE (see the list of the pages below).
