Global Village Park in Dubai

Page update - Jan 14, 2023

Global Village Park is one of the oldest attractions in Dubai. The park is 25 years old and has been rebuilt and relocated several times. It is now a huge park with 90 themed pavilions dedicated to different countries of the world, an amusement park and other entertainment facilities.

Global Village Park is not so large - about 3,300 feet (1,000 meters) long and 2,100 feet (650 meters) wide. But we advise to plan a whole evening to see it and feel the atmosphere.

News in 2023

Starting January 2023, a new bus was launched to Global Village Park from the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. And that's great news, as there's a clear lack of attractions in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah. Read all the details about the new bus below on this page.

Important - season of operation!

Global Village Park is a seasonal attraction, open only during the winter season. It opens in late October and closes in early April.

Out of season the park is closed at all!

The 2022/2023 season opened

The 2022/2023 season opened on October 25, 2022. We just updated everything on this page on October 25 due the opening. The season is scheduled to close on April 29, 2023.

What's new for the 2022/2023 season

The new "Road of Asia" street is open. There are 43 new street-food outlets and stalls from 13 countries: Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, Brunei, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Nepal, Vietnam, Myanmar, Bhutan, Philippines.

It is announced about 400 artists and groups - singers, dancers, musicians, clowns, and children's artists. 200 different shows are held every day.

The children's Peter Rabbit Adventure Zone, introduced for the first time last season, was clearly enjoyed by visitors, and now it remains permanent in the Global Village.

The third entrance is open, called the ultra-optimistic Happiness Gate. The line of themed souvenirs was almost completely updated. Two new pavilions were added, of Qatar and Oman.

The new attraction is the Global Village Big Balloon. It is a hot air balloon, which will lift guests to a height of 60 meters (200 feet).

To go or not to Global Village?

Let's say at once. If Global Village was located near a subway station and if it was open at least from noon, we would definitely recommend it for a visit. But given its remote location and inconvenient opening hours for tourists, the situation is uncertain.

- The opportunity to visit 3,500 stores with goods from different countries. It is more interesting not even to buy, but to look at ethnic goods from all over the world;

- Moderate (by UAE standards) entrance fee of 20 dirhams, dance shows and children's performances are included. See our review "The UAE currency" for the current AED exchange rates;

- A large amusement park where you can pay only for the rides you are interested in, and this payment scheme is rare in the UAE;

- Opportunities to try street food and fast food from all over the world.

- Inconvenient for tourists opening hours, which will be discussed below;

- Uncomfortable location, which we will talk about now.

Where is it located and how to get there?

The park is located in the southeast of the city, on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. It is 12.5 miles (20 kilometers) from the nearest subway station. It's a long or expensive to get there.

Option 1 - cab. At normal rates, a cab will be expensive. The trip from the nearest subway station "Mall of the Emirates" is 12.5 miles (20 kilometers), the trip will cost 50-60 dirhams. From the hotel will cost even more, depending on the distance. See the current fares in our review "Taxis in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah".

There is a 30% discount on Careem cab rides. You need to order a car with the official Careem app and enter the promo code GVWOW. The discount will apply if Global Village Park is the destination or departure point of the trip.

There are special reduced fares for trips to and from the Global Village Park. To take advantage of these fares, you need to call a cab through the DTC (Dubai Taxi Corporation) app. The app is available for iOS and Android and is called "DTC". How much lower are these fares? We can't say yet, we haven't used it.

Option 2 - bus. There are 4 routes from subway stations directly to Global Village. All have a 30 minute interval and operate from 3:15 pm to 11:15 pm.

Attention! The fare of these buses is 10 dirhams per person (flat tariff). Pay by NOL card.

Bus 102. From Centrepoint (former Al Rashidiya) Metro Station.

Bus 103. From Union Metro Station.

Bus 104. From Al Ghubaiba Metro Station.

Bus 106. From Mall of the Emirates Metro Station.

For the map of the Dubai subway with all latest updates, see our review "Dubai Metro".

To know the exact time, so you don't have to stand and wait for a bus, we give you the exact timetables from the RTA for 2022: bus 102 timetable, bus 103 timetable, bus 104 timetable, bus 106 timetable. As of January 3, 2022, there is a new work week in the UAE, and all buses have changed their timetables.

Bus from the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah

Starting January 2023, a new bus to Global Village Park has been launched from Ras Al Khaimah Emirate. The fare is AED 30. The journey time is 1 hour 20 minutes. There are two trips there at 3 pm and 5 pm (15-00 and 17-00) and two trips back at 10 pm and 11-45 pm (22-00 and 23-45). The bus departs from RAK Bus Station. Runs are only on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Ticket price

You have to pay to enter the Global Village, which greatly surprises many tourists.

For the 2022/2023 season, the pricing policy has changed FULLY. There are now two types of tickets: Value Entry Ticket (valid Sunday through Thursday) and Any Day Entry Ticket (valid any day). The prices below include VAT tax.

Value Entry Ticket at the ticket office: 20 dirhams;

Value Entry Ticket on or app: 18 dirhams;

Any Day Entry Ticket at the ticket office: 25 dirhams;

Any Day Entry Ticket on or app: 22.5 dirhams.

Free admission: children under 3 years old, seniors over 65, disabled.

An important point! There are rides in the park, but they are for an additional fee. Which is what we will tell later, when we will talk in detail about all parts of the park.

You can buy tickets either at the ticket office at the entrance, or in the "Global Village" app, or on the official website

Operation hours

Opening hours have changed since 2022. This is due to the change of weekends in the UAE. Read more in our review "Fridays and weekends in the UAE".

Sunday to Wednesday: from 4 pm to midnight (16-00 to 00-00).

Thursday to Saturday and on national holidays: 4 pm to 1 am (16-00 to 01-00).

On Tuesdays, admission for families and women only.

Warning! In September 2022, it was reported in some Emirati publications that "family day" will now (for the 2022/2023 season) be on a Monday. This information is false.

See the national holidays schedule in our review "Holidays in the UAE".

The working hours are extremely inconvenient for tourists. Smart tourists in the UAE go to amusement parks and water parks in day hours, so as not to stand in lines and avoid the crowds. And the Global Village park opens only at 4 pm (16-00). Already in 1.5-2 hours it becomes full of people.

What to see and do?

Cafes and restaurants

There are more than 130 eateries in Global Village Park. Of these, only 20 cafes and restaurants, that is, with seating. Restaurants are usually crowded. The rest are stalls and counters with national fast food and street food.

If you want to try street food from all over the world in one evening, Global Village is your best bet. If you are picky about food, it will be a problem to find something acceptable among this variety.

If you want to try many kinds of national food then it might be easier to go to the Dubai Mall food courts, where the food outlets are just as good and the variety is just as good.

The number of outlets is astronomical - 3,500! Even the Dubai Mall and the Mall of the Emirates don't have that many together. But quantity does not mean quality. Most of these 3,500 outlets are very small shops.

Most of them are ethnic stores. Each pavilion has goods from its own country. In the Moroccan pavilion you can find a wide variety of tagine, in the Indian pavilion you can buy a curry for every taste or a figurine of the god Ganesha, in the Turkish pavilion baklava and Turkish delights.

Ethnic products lovers will be insanely interesting there. The rest will be moderately interesting.

Children's shows at the Kids Theatre

Price: included in the price of admission ticket.

Performed at the Kids Theatre 3-4 times a day, and the shows are short - 10 minutes. The characters are familiar to most children: PJ masks, Ben and Holly, Angry Birds. The shows are not bad, but all the communication between the characters is in English, which is unusual for some tourist children (with English not native).

Main Stage concerts

Price: included in the price of admission ticket.

Dancing shows are held on the Main Stage 4-5 times a day. The shows are short, 20 minutes, but interesting to watch. The repertoire is mostly dedicated to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. They are performed in Arabic and the languages of these countries.

Street performers

Price: included in the price of admission ticket.

Clowns, life-size puppets, actors in costumes and on stilts work in the streets. You can interact with them and take pictures with them, there is no separate photo fee.

Carnival rides

Price: from 10 to 60 points, pay with the Wonder Card.

There is a large amusement park in the center of Global Village. For the rides and amusement machines, you need to buy a Wonder Card and recharge the balance. 1 point = 1 dirham and there are discounts for high value deposits.

The prices are quite high. The ride on the local extreme trampoline - 60 points, Moscow Max boat - 20 points, Shang High roundabout - 30 points. To ride all the rides and play the machines costs about 1000 dirhams!

"Wheel of the World"

Price: 25 points, payment by Wonder Card.

The Wheel of the World, a large Ferris wheel 200 feet (60 meters) high. Allows you to look at the Global Village park from above and appreciate its scale. The wheel is easiest to find, the wheel is lit up and can be seen from anywhere in the park.

Ripley's Believe It or Not!

Price: 40 dirhams for the museum, 30 for the mirror maze.

This entertaining idea originated in the US and has now spread to more than 100 countries. It is a museum that displays photographs, wax figures, scenes and installations that show facts that are very hard to believe. Visitors have to guess for themselves whether it's true or false.

The entertainment is interesting, but expensive. Also at the museum is a mirror maze. There is a combo ticket museum + labyrinth, price - 55 dirhams.

Stunt Show

Price: 15 dirhams.

Stunt show on motorcycles, buggies, and cars. Lasts 20 minutes, takes place in a special arena 4 times a day except Tuesdays. The drivers don't show the stunts anymore, but talk to each other, playing out some kind of script. The acoustics there are clearly not at the highest level, there is a lot of noise, and even with a good knowledge of English there is little to understand.

Price: 15 dirhams.

A circus with a capacity of 500 people. There are clowns, acrobats, motorcyclists. The performance lasts 30 minutes, takes place in the circus tent 3 times a day.

Important Tips

- The park has a dress code and the usual set of rules of conduct, all of which we told you about in the review "What is not allowed in the UAE";

- The Global Village app for smartphones has a map of the park. Otherwise, the app is useless, as it is just a set of links to the official website. We recommend downloading the app in advance, as mobile traffic in the UAE is expensive, as we talked about in the review "Cheap Internet in the UAE";

- The Global Village park has free internet. For the 2019/2020 season, the park became the first UAE attraction with full 5G coverage;

- During Ramadan, the park is open, but it will be very difficult to eat out. All the restaurants are packed to full capacity for iftar as the sun goes down. Read our review "Ramadan in Dubai and the UAE".

Have a great visit to Global Village, and read our useful for tourists pages about the UAE (see the list of the pages below).
